Goodbye, privacy. Hello Facebook!

(Sigh?) So, I did it. I've been on the fence about Facebook and similar services when it comes to their privacy issues for a few years now. I figured "Oh, what the Hell?" tonight and created my profile.

FB isn't my first foray into social networking, however. I used to have a Friendster account back in the day, but, let's face it, Friendster just hasn't had the success of MySpace (which trumped Friendster) and Facebook (which has trumped MySpace, in many people's opinions). I quit Friendster years ago because of the constant porn spam and didn't feel like signing up for MySpace at the time.

So is Facebook the ultimate social networking site? It was pretty easy to set up my profile, add a few friends, add a few apps, etc. I think it's ok, so far. Let me know if you've had any bad experiences with it. Oh, and if you're on there and you know me, feel free to request me. Sorry if I missed you? I am new to it, you know smile_tongue

I use as many as I can. More linkbacks the better to get myself out there in the world. Its not too successfull...

Either way its good for wasting time and keeping up with people you dont talk to every day.

Twitter next?

i like facebook's ease of connection to others. i'm always logged in, so getting a link to a funny article i read or picture i saw is as easy as: click bookmark, type friend's name, paste to wall. for that purpose it's better than email, because ueveryone can see it.

I lost a bit of respect for you just now :-P  Social networking sites FTL.
I have respect for dedicated blog sites because it takes some skill to set one up.
When I hear a 43 year old soccer mom at a restaurant talking about her facebook page... it just turns me off of the idea even more.
I've always been the type of person to want what others don't have, or if I have something, to customize it and make it mine.  Something unique, apart from everyone else.
The ONLY reason I might sign up is so I can keep in touch with some friends that I don't see any more and don't have any other real ways of communicating with them.

Facebook hasn't been too bad thus yet. It's a little overwhelming during that initial "friend rush", but tapers off after a while. I figure, why not have both? FB is a good way to connect to friends and schoolmates from the past and present, but definitely doesn't reach the depth that a blog site can. True, you can't trick out FB like you can a blog or MySpace, even. IMO, that turned a lot of people off of MS once the coolness of customization wore off and everyone started adding silly stuff to their own pages and friend's pages (because you're right, good design does take skill). FB does give you some tools you can use to publish your blog feed to your wall, which your fiends can then see. They can be redirected to your site and can read it from there if they're more interested in what you have to say. FB for quick blurbs and the blog for the things with detail. It sounds like a decent formula to me, so I'll see how it goes.

Well I did it.  I lost a bit of respect for my self today.
Mostly I wanted to see other people's pictures and you can't do that with out an account so they forced me to sign up for one :-\
